Bell was trying again to get off of Quill when she heard something she hadn't since they were little. Quill's laugh. She stopped moving for a minute, trying to decide if she had really heard it, blushing while she did. He was laughing at her. Great.

This just made her try harder, which made her failed attempts worse.

Just to clear things up, Quill wasn't really laughing at her, at least not intending to make fun of her. He just thought the situation was funny, and Bell's inability to get up just kind of added to the humor. Besides, it wasn't like he wasn't totally enjoying Bell wiggling around on top of him.

"Hey," he said, sitting up and sliding Bell forward easily so that she was kind of sitting on his lap now. He noticed she wasn't finding this nearly as amusing as he was. "Something wrong? You didn't get hurt when we fell, did you?"

"No, I'm fine," she said. "I was just, just startled is all."

Quill didn't believe that, because it had been at least a few minutes since they fell, and she was still acting "startled." Hm. Why would she lie? "Are you sure?" he asked, looking at her closely.

"Mhm," she said with a nod. She blew some of her hair out of her face and tried again to stand up. This was not going very well... "Ugh, I'm sorry," she groaned. At least she wasn't falling on him anymore, and instead she just couldn't even stand at all.

"Here, I'll help you," Quill told her with a smile, standing up and gently pulling her up with him, keeping his hands on her shoulders to keep her steady. "Don't be sorry. You haven't skated in years and years, it's totally normal that you're not very good at it."

"Thanks, Quill," Bell said softly. She leaned up and kissed him, before losing her balance and falling into him. He didn't fall though, she just fell forward and wrapped her arms around him to keep herself from falling to the ground again. xD

"Oh..." Quill said softly, catching her when she fell into him. What was it about Bell that was just so compelling? He could spend hours and hours, probably even days, with her nonstop, and never get bored or sick of her. This had to be what it was like to love someone.

"Bell, I...I love..." he hesitated, and then totally chickened out, "spending time with you."

Bell looked up at him with longing as he stammered for a moment, but blushed and looked away when he finished. She had been stupid to think he might be saying what she had thought. It had only been a month, he couldn't feel that way already. Just because it had been much longer for her, she couldn't go thinking that he felt as strongly as she did.

"I really like spending time with you too," she said softly.

Since they both loved spending time with each other so much, they spent the rest of the day together. Once they grew tired of ice skating, Quill took her back into town and bought her dinner at the Kiborante. Then they went back to his house and talked all evening until it was time for Bell to go home, so he walked her home and they gave each other a kiss goodnight.

Today was a good day, Quill thought as he walked back home.

=)
